Introduction to Fire Safety in Wollongong

In Wollongong, where both urban and industrial environments have a strong presence, fire safety isn't just a regulatory requirement, it's mission-critical to workplace safety. Thousands of workplace fires break out every year in Australia, which really brings home the importance of having well-trained fire wardens in place. These fire warden roles are a crucial part of your emergency control organisation (ECO), so when disaster strikes, your team can respond quickly and effectively.

Our fire warden training courses, available in both online and face-to-face formats, make sure your team has the skills and confidence to act swiftly in an emergency. Whether your team works in Wollongong's busy industrial areas, high-rise buildings or local offices, our training is designed to cover every aspect of fire safety that matters. Online fire warden training lets participants work at their own pace, which is great for staff with busy schedules or who are in remote areas.

As per Australian Standards, including AS 3745-2010, our courses deliver nationally accredited certification, so you can rest easy knowing your business is compliant and ready for emergencies. And, with certification upon successful course completion, you can be confident that your workplace is fire-ready at all times.

Why Fire Warden Training is a Must in Wollongong

In Wollongong, just like across Australia, fire warden training is legally compulsory. Compliance with AS 3745-2010 and local Work Health and Safety (WHS) laws means that businesses must appoint fire wardens to ensure staff safety in emergencies. Fire warden training helps businesses tick all the regulatory boxes and gives your staff the tools they need to handle any emergency situation.

The Legal Risks of Not Having Trained Fire Wardens:

  • Fines Galore: Businesses can face big fines for failing to meet fire safety standards.
  • Legal Liability: If an emergency hits and the fire warden duties aren't carried out correctly, businesses could be held accountable for injuries or damages.
  • Insurance - Don't Get Caught Out: A lack of trained fire wardens may invalidate your insurance coverage in the event of an emergency.

How Many Fire Wardens Do You Need in Wollongong?

As a basic rule, you need one fire warden for every 20 people in your workplace. However, the exact number depends on your business size, type and level of risk involved. Businesses in Wollongong that operate in high-risk environments, such as warehouses, high-rise buildings or factories, will need more fire wardens to ensure compliance and safety.

  • Staffing Tip: 1 fire warden per 20 staff, or as required by your building's risk assessment.
